My passion as an artist lies in the discipline of painting from life. My medium of choice, pastel. Like many painters, I was drawn to pastel for their rich, vibrant and saturated color. I believe pastel is perfectly suited for plein air work for several reasons. It's immediate, you don't have to worry about drying time and you can transport your finished piece quite easily, and no messy liquids.
I love being in the landscape, observing nature that surrounds me, and trying my best to convey the truth of what I am seeing and experiencing. My favorite quote by an American artist and author, Anne Bevan states; "Art is our memory of love. The most an artist can do through their work is say, let me show you what I have seen, what I have loved, and perhaps you will see it and love it too." With the beauty of Northern Michigan and the wild, untamed parts of Florida as my painting playgrounds, I am either painting or thinking about painting. The discovery of plein air has truly changed my life!
